On Wednesday, the Corry girls basketball team headed down to Farrell to go against the Grove City Eagles for the opening round of playoffs.
The game started at 6 p.m. at Farrell High School. The lady Beavers went into the game with an overall record of 4-10 and the lady Eagles with an overall record of 11-12. The lady Beavers made the playoffs last year but didn’t make it past the opening round. Wednesday night’s win for the girls was the first time since 2016 that a Corry Girls Basketball team has made it past the opening round of the playoffs.
The starting lineup for the Beavers was #1 Halle Albers, #13 Haley Mumua, #20 Rylee Nickerson, #22 Grace Allen, and #25 Sadye Dyne. For the Eagles: #1 Autumn Cook, #3 Madeline Barr, #4 Aisling Brink, #23 Lola Kolbe, and #25 Izzie Gamble.
The game was kicked off with Grace Allen winning the tip-off. From there the first points of the game were made by Dyne with a layup making the score 2-0 Beavers. It was a slow first quarter for the Eagles, with them only scoring eight points. By the end of the first quarter, the score was 11-8, with the beavers still in the lead.
Throughout the second quarter, both teams were scoring, and going into halftime, the score was still in the Beavers favor, with it being 18-11. The Eagles picked it up in the second half of the game and played right with the Beavers point for point.
In the end, the Beavers kept the lead with an ending score of 43-30. The girls will be heading into the second round of the playoffs on Saturday against Fairview.
