On October 16, Paul Daniel “Ace” Frehley passed away at the age of 74 due to an injury to his brain after he fell in his home studio in Morristown, New Jersey in late September.
Ace was born on April 27, 1951 in the Bronx, New York and his parents are Esther Anna Hecht and Carl Daniel Frehley. He was known for his “Spaceman” makeup and lightning bolt guitar strap while he was in the band.
He was the lead guitarist for the very popular rock band KISS, but he also occasionally sang lead vocals. The other members of this band are Paul Stanley (vocals, rhythm guitar), Gene Simmons (vocals, bass guitar), and Peter Criss (vocals, drum kit). KISS was formed in 1973 when Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, after their previous band Wicked Lester broke up, teamed up with drummer Peter Criss and lead guitarist Ace Frehley.
After Frehley left KISS he formed a band called Frehley’s Comet and launched a solo career, releasing several successful albums and touring. He rejoined KISS for a reunion tour in 1996 before leaving again and going on to be successful in his solo career and releasing an album in 2024 called “10,000 Volts”.
KISS performed their final show at Madison Square Garden in New York City on December 2, 2023. At the end of their final show, it was announced that the band would live on as digital avatars for fully virtual stage show performances.
Complications arose from the fall, including a brain bleed that required Ace to be put on life support. Following the incident, he cancelled the rest of his 2025 tour dates due to ongoing medical issues from the fall. He was on a ventilator after not showing any improvement until he sadly passed away on October 16.
