Eight years after the original movie was released, Disney has released “Moana 2.” This highly-anticipated sequel takes place three years after the original movie. The island and the people on it appear to be thriving until Moana gets an unexpected “call” from her way-finding ancestors. She puts together a crew and they set sail on a journey to break the curse of the lost island.
In the new movie, four new major characters are introduced. Alongside Moana (Auli’i Cravalho) and Maui (Dwayne Johnson) are Moana’s three crew members: Moni (Hualalai Chung), Loto (Rose Matafeo), and Kele (David Fane). The other new character that is introduced is Moana’s little sister Simea (Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda). I thought that the new voices were cast really well and sounded like the perfect voices for the characters they were portraying. Overall, the movie was good but definitely not as good as the original movie.
Honestly, I was expecting and hoping for a different approach to the second movie. It was very similar to the first movie where Moana has to leave the island in order to save her people, so it was pretty much the same with a different objective. Of course, they had to fight against all the different “bad guys” they run into along the way and a lot of other very similar things happen between the two movies.
When we were leaving the movie theater, a lady behind us said “I liked that better than the first one!” but I completely disagree. I probably wouldn’t watch the movie again. Overall, I would rate it a 2.5/5.
