“Repent !” is an album released by rapper Lil Tony on January 26. This album explores themes of gangs, violence, lust and also a struggle with religion. Lil Tony, who originally only rapped about gang activity, really opens his heart up in this album, announcing his struggles with all the themes mentioned prior.
At first listen you might miss the fact that he is talking about his struggles, but if you look deep into it, all the tracks in the album follow a strict theme of a mental struggle between what Tony would see growing up and how he feels about those issues. Whether it was murder or lust, Tony explains how he knows its wrong, but he can’t escape the bad happening in his life, even if he caused it himself. Growing up in that Atlanta culture, all of the wrong things Tony explains were extremely present, which he is not proud of, and he talks about how he wishes instead he would focus on his relationship with God instead of the wrong in his life.
In all, the album is a beautiful mixture of amazing beats with an openness that most artists would not be willing to explore. This openness makes the album a 3.5/5, being one of Lil Tony’s top projects in his discography. People who do not understand the openness presented in the album might not understand the beautiful themes presented.
