On February 2, the 67th Grammys aired. The Grammy Awards recognize different accomplishments for music. There are four major awards: Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist.
Album of the Year was won by Beyoncé for her album, “Cowboy Carter.” In my opinion I thought that Billie Eilish should have won for her album, “Hit me Hard and Soft.” Her album was one of my favorite albums ever– it was my most listened to last year, and her song, “Wildflower,” was my most listened to song. So I wanted her to win, since I thought that her album was very good. There are no songs worth skipping and all the songs are emotional, which overall makes them better in my opinion.
Record of the Year was won by Kendrick Lamar and his song “Not Like Us.” I think that this win was deserved because this song was extremely popular since it came out. I also don’t think that any other song was necessarily better or a better choice to win.
Song of the Year was also given to Kendrick Lamar for his song “Not Like Us.” The only other song that I believe had a chance of winning was Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ song, “Die with a Smile.” I have the same opinion as the Record of the Year award, that his song was so popular that it makes sense as to why it won.
Chappell Roan won Best New Artist. I also agree with this win since Chappell Roan had a very good year with her music overall. She did a lot of performances and gained a lot of popularity. I believe that this win makes sense, especially with the amount of popularity that she had gained.
Best Pop Vocal Album was won by Sabrina Carpenter’s “Short n’ Sweet.” While I do like her album, I think that there were other albums that were more fit to win the award. For example, Billie Eilish’s “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” and Ariana Grande’s “Eternal Sunshine.” As I have stated before, I loved Billie Eilish’s album, so I believe that it should have won at least one award. And as for Ariana Grande, most people know she has amazing vocals. Even if you don’t necessarily like her music, you have to admit that she has great vocals.
Best Pop Solo performance was again awarded to Sabrina Carpenter with her song “Espresso.” I can see why this song won, because this song was very highly streamed, and also had a lot of popularity surrounding it. I get why this song won, due to how popular it was this year.
Best Pop Duo/Group Performance was won by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars. Their song “Die With A Smile” was extremely popular and often at the top of the billboard. So again, this win makes sense, especially because a lot of different age groups enjoyed the song.
The winner of Best Dance/Electronic Recording was Justice & Tame Impala with “Neverender.”
Best Dance/Electronic Album was won by Charli XCX, and her album “Brat.” I had only heard about this album out of the others that were nominated, so I also agree with this win. It was extremely popular this year as well, meaning I can see why it was the winner.
Best Dance/Pop Recording was won by Charli XCX, with her song “Von Dutch.” Again I can see why this won, as her album was very popular. I do think that all the other songs nominated were good nominations as well however. So with whatever song won I would not have been mad, since they were all good songs.
Best Rap Performance went to Kendrick Lamar, with his song “Not Like Us.” He was nominated as a feature in this category as well, with Future, Metro Boomin, and his song, “Like That.”
Best Rap Song was also won by Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us.” This song was extremely popular all year, so it makes total sense that it won this category as well. There were a few other popular songs within this category, but none were as popular as “Not Like Us.”
The winner of Best Rap Album is Doechii, and her album “Alligator Bites Never Heal.” She was nominated in a few other categories as well. I think that out of the other albums nominated hers was the best, so I agree with her winning the award.
Best Country Solo Performance winner Chris Stapleton won with his song, “It Takes A Woman.” I don’t really listen to country, but I have heard that Chris Stapleton is a great singer, and I know he has a lot of fans.
Best Country Album was won by Beyoncé and her album “Cowboy Carter.” Personally, I believe that someone else should have won this award. I do think that she is a great singer, but not for country, in my opinion. Which is overall why I believe that a different signer should have gotten this award.
Muni Long won Best R&B performance with her song “Made For Me (Live On BET).” I have listened to this song and do agree that it is good, however I have not heard this performance. But I wish that SZA won for her song, “Saturn,” I love this song, and I believe that SZA has such amazing vocals, so I wanted her to win.
Best R&B song was won by SZA and her song “Saturn.”
The Best Song Written for Visual Media winner was Jon Batiste with the song, “It Never Went Away (From American Symphony).” I believe that Olivia Rodrigo should have won this category, with her song “Can’t Catch Me Now (From The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes).” I love this song and think that it is so good. Even though it was released a while ago, I still think that it is just as good as the first time I heard it.
