The “Minecraft” movie is under criticism. Lots of fans showed up to yell the iconic phrases of “chicken jockey” and “flint and steel” when the film opened April 4. But was the movie actually good?
The “Minecraft” movie is making headlines with its corny comedy and strange catchphrases. It’s also making headlines for its destructive nature in movie theaters. We’ve all seen the videos of crowds going wild at Jack Black and Jason Momoa’s scene in the woodland mansion, but how much is too much?
The movie is obviously corny, but that is what most of the “Minecraft” fans went to see. They weren’t looking for a movie about Steve beating the Ender Dragon, they were looking for a movie to be joked about with a high production budget and low script quality. The insult is the thing that truly highlights the actual quality of the movie: people showed up to see a joke of a movie, and they got exactly what they wanted. When popcorn and candy started flying the only thing that mattered to fans was laughing. But what about the movie theater attendees or the people who just came to watch the movie for cinematic purposes?
For starters, as I mentioned earlier, the point of this movie was not to have a high quality cinematic experience or to make the next hit box office seller. It was to fulfill the dreams of the child inside the now-teenage fans. Many people are taking to social media to defend the movie and say that it may not be a high quality movie, but it is the movie their younger self would have wanted. So if you’re not a fan and you’re going for the cinematic experience of a good movie, don’t get mad when people who have been playing the game since childhood actually have a good time seeing the film.
In continuation, the movie theater needs to understand that this is obviously going to be a big time for fans and critics alike and hire extra cleaning staff. It shouldn’t be the job of the regular cleaning staff to clean the monster of a mess that comes with movies like this; they should have extra help. The blame should not be put on the ones having fun and making the mess, it should be on the managers who don’t hire or schedule enough cleaning staff causing an overload. Obviously, you should try to be respectful and not throw food, but you shouldn’t get in trouble if you do.
In conclusion, the movie is designed to have fun with and that’s the way it should be. The cast is incredible. What better person to play Steve than Jack Black? And who would make a better Garret the Garbage Man than Jason Momoa? The fact that it is so poorly made is the reason why it couldn’t be better. The movie that everyone needed, but no one expected. If you haven’t seen it already, I highly recommend you do. And don’t forget to have fun.
