“Alright friends, this is Bug Blaster Daniel, and welcome back to surviving in insectpocalypse,” the young Daniel Phont read from his script to talk to his camera.
This had always been his dream, a real life apocalypse! The possibilities were endless! But he continued with his DVD recording. Today’s Subject: The Bishop’s Mantis.
“The Bishop’s Mantis stands at around 4.5 meters tall and weighs a lean 250 pounds, despite its height. The best way to approach a confrontation with a Bishop’s Mantis would be first avoid getting into it, but say its got you in its sights, what do you do now?
“First, put on your stabby armor, described how to make in an earlier film. Never turn your back to the Mantis and never look a Mantis in the eyes; they have a hypnotic effect and if you get caught in a trance you are as good as gone. If you have the choice, decide whether you want to attack or retreat. If you want to retreat, back away slowly, Never taking your eyes off the Mantis.
“If it makes a move to attack, or if you choose to attack it, rush at it as fast as you can, throwing your body weight into it. If you do this hard enough you may be able to mess up its footing and make it topple. If it does try and attack you, make sure you have some sort of hard, shield-like structure to take the blunt of the strike.
“If you get hit outright, it is most likely to hit the shoulders or visceral mass. If it grabs at the shoulders, it will break, and possibly rip off your arms, lift you up to its mouth, open its jaw, and splat. On the other hand, if it hits you in the chest (this is what would happen if it doesn’t open its claws), it will break your sternum and several ribs, leading to massive internal bleeding. Thankfully for you, you won’t have to wait, as it impales you and eats you immediately.
“To kill a Bishop’s Mantis, you need to decapitate it, because the neck is the only area vulnerable enough to slice through. Never let the Mantis’s blood get on you, It is highly corrosive, and will cause intense burns. I hope this video has been helpful to you, Good luck on your next encounter.”
The charade faded. Daniel knew nothing about survival– the fact he was still alive was a miracle. He was scared, cold, and hungry. He did not thrive.
He knew not how to fight, but to cower. He was alone.
