Every Friday, the janitor cleaned out the school’s lost and found box. Mostly it was hoodies, lunchboxes, and water bottles with faded stickers.
One afternoon, near the bottom of the bin, Mr. Harlow found something new. A small red notebook. It wasn’t there that morning. He was sure of it.
Curious, he flipped it open. Inside was a list of names. Students from the school and even teachers like himself were listed in a row. He looked and noticed a name that happened to be crossed out in a red liquid.
He tried to read what was written beneath it. It read: Mr. Harlow.
The lights started to flicker and doors slam shut. His ears started to ring of yelling voices.
A cold shiver rippled down his spine as cold sweat began to consume his whole body. He had a feeling that this wasn’t some ordinary notebook.
He freezes and drops the book on the ground. The ringing in his ears began to become more intense with yelling. He drops down as he holds his ears and starts to yell in pain.
Then some sort of force sucked him back into a wall. He started to look around in panic not being able to move.
He started to feel something tight around his throat but nothing was there. It was as if a snake was wrapping itself around his neck.
He struggled to fight back, but it was no use. That’s when everything went dark.
The lights flickered back on and the bell rang. Mr. Harlow was no longer in sight. The students flooded the hallway not knowing what had just occurred.
The red notebook now lay on the ground.
The bell rangs once more, indicating the start of a new period.
A girl running late tripped and fell losing all her books. She frantically picked her things up and noticed the red notebook. She picked it up slowly. She flipped it side to side to get a good look at it.
She shrugged her shoulders as she added it with her other things and then ran off to get to class.
