Lil Baby’s fourth studio album “WHAM!” came out of nowhere for a lot of people, being largely under the radar. Coming off of the 2022 album “It’s Only Me,” expectations were quite low as people started seeing Lil Baby’s one dimensional style. People thought he wasn’t innovative enough and hasn’t really seen much growth throughout his nearly 10 year career. Although, when “WHAM!” released, a lot of different opinions were formed.
Personally, I liked the album and think it is definitely better than his last, but it probably won’t have any staying power as it still is the same old Lil Baby music people have come to expect. Most of the standout tracks come from the features like “Dum, Dumb, and Dumber (with Young Thug & Future)”, “Redbone (with Glorilla)”, and “Outfit (with 21 Savage).”
Other songs that are good are “F U 2x”, “Due 4A Win”, and “Free Promo” with high energy performances, and “So Sorry” with more vulnerable and personal lyrics. The majority of the tracks feature the same lyrics about money, women, and gang politics, with more personal songs like “I Promise, By Myself (feat. Rod Wave & Rylo Rodriguez)”, and “So Sorry.”
About 8-10 songs from this 19 song album hold any replay value, which isn’t very good at about a 50% success rate. This doesn’t help Lil Baby’s “fell off” allegations, claiming he is out of his prime as this was the only major release so far in January and still barely generated any talk online.
Though I personally really enjoy some of the songs I could only give it a rating of a 3/5, which is being generous.
