“The Jester” is an indie movie production directed by Colin Krawchuk and was released on September 29, 2023, with a sequel released earlier this year on September 15.
The storyline follows two estranged sisters who recently had their father pass away. The two sisters barely knew each other, while the one was happy to finally meet her sister, the other was not. Over the course of the movie, the two face major mental illusions, brought upon by the Jester. The Jester uses his magic to impress/entertain his viewers, but as well to kill them.
Overall, I really loved this movie, despite it having a score of 25% by Rotten Tomatoes and a 3.9/10 by IMBD. I don’t see why they thought the movie was horrible. After looking into some people’s personal opinions on the movie, most said the acting was terrible, the story was hard to follow, and that the camera quality was bad. For one thing, the movie is an independent movie that started as a short horror series that was run on Youtube by Krawchuk. He wrote and directed both movies, so he wasn’t a part of a big company, that’s why this is an independent (indie) movie. Typically, this means there aren’t many actors, props, or expensive items used to produce the movie.
Another thing is that The Jester’s character is often compared to the likes of Art the Clown from “Terrifier.” Which I can see from a certain viewpoint, both movies include silent clowns that kill. Although Art plays with his victims, The Jester is able to bring his magic to life, shown throughout the movie in his kills.
Overall, I would give the movie a big recommendation for any fan of horror. The movie is unrated, but should have a rating of R for death, gore, violence, mild language, flashing lights, alcohol, and fear.
Rating: 5/5
