Disclaimer: I have done research on this subject and have tried to find out everything I could. This is not exact, considering it is what I know and remember about the events mentioned.
In 2016, an anonymous Reddit user who goes by _9MOTHER9HORSEYES9 released fragments of horror-related content through nonrelated posts and discussion threads. When put together, these installments formed the creepypasta story, “The Interface Series.” The story is a science fiction tale that blurs reality.
“The Interface Series” is about people who begin picking up strange transmissions through electronic devices such as radios, TVs, phones, etc. These transmissions, however, are not just weird noises or coded messages. Instead, they are vivid, detailed broadcasts that seem to come from an alternate reality or a collapsed version of our own world. They can be thought of as pirate radio-style horror stories, except the horror bleeds into real life. “The Interface Series” focuses on manipulation, control, and the potential for power to essentially “dehumanize” individuals. It explores themes like reality as an Interface, cosmic horror, info-hazards, biotech and manipulation, and temporal dissonance.
“The Interface Series” takes inspiration from the real-world events and theories connected with the CIA’s top secret MKULTRA experiments. In these experiments, the CIA dosed unwitting subjects with LSD to see how they would react. Within the CIA are different departments, each unique in their own ways. By feeding the test subjects steady doses of LSD, and other psychoactives, the CIA would be able to see how the different departments would diverge, and mutate away from normal departments. Within these events, other projects and hierarchies emerged. Everybody involved, specifically unwittingly under the influence of LSD, led to the creation of the “flesh interfaces,” which were created from a heavily psycho-mutated hierarchy. The project had to be eliminated, but the technology it created has been revolutionary.
When these “flesh interfaces” were created, they allowed a way to bypass traditional keyboard and mouse interfaces, allowing direct interaction with technology through touch and feeling. The concept is related to the idea of “skin-on interfaces” which are skin-like coverings that when added to existing devices, can enhance their capabilities. These interfaces are depicted as portals or tunnels within human flesh, allowing for teleportation or other unusual phenomena. They act as means of accessing information and or interacting with digital networks. “Flesh interfaces” described as “tears in reality” are often used to describe portals or entryways into other dimensions and realities, manifested through human flesh. These “tears” are not literal, but are said to be a way to access something beyond the known world.
In one reddit post by 9M9H9E9, the sub account of _9MOTHER9HORSEYES9, entitled, “What Are The Flesh Interfaces?” 9M9H9E9 explains that “Flesh interfaces” are tears in the fabric of time. 9M9H9E9 says that if one were to view a dimension devoid of the order that time bestows upon the world, a human may begin to appear as a thick and pulsating tube of flesh. Their limbs would protrude in all directions. If someone were to take a photo of an artifact, per say, the mechanism of time would allow them to, and millions of others, to take a photo of that artifact safely and comfortably. The user also claims that removing time from the picture would just make a person a jumbled mess of flesh.
According to _9MOTHER9HORSEYES9, the interface is not a place. It is not even a signal. It is the line that blurs reality. The transmissions that were sent in these stories were thought to be random glitches or static, but in all reality, they were messages. The characters believed they were sent by someone trying to reach them. The government covered these messages up to protect humanity.
Despite people trying to hide the truth, the children in these stories knew everything. In 1987, the first transmission was picked up. It was short, bleeding through a breakfast ad in Dayton, Ohio. What made this ad creepy was the fact that it was a voice that sounded like God, choking on glass. It stated, “Do not observe the red hour. The sky is not your sky anymore. The shape in the fog has a name and it is yours.” The viewers suffered migraines and reported that they lost track of time. In one case, a teenager spoke backwards for three whole days. This was labeled as “Interface_Event #0001.”
Then, “Interface_Event #0002″ happened. A cassette tape was found buried under a school swing set. The recording was released to the public. It featured a child singing a creepy song that said, “He’s in the trees / He’s in your teeth / Interface will come for me…” Children reported seeing “mirror people” and three went missing.
These events carried onto “Interface_Event #0003.” During a broadcast, a Radio DJ’s voice was reversed mid-broadcast. The viewers supposedly heard their names whispered behind the reversed speech. The broadcaster lost all sense of self, and referred to himself as “Version 3.”
Things began to get even worse with “Interface_Event #0004.” That was when everyone in Burlington mysteriously lost their faces for 11 minutes. Their expressions just disappeared. There were no injuries, and witnesses describe a sensation of being, “backed up.” The event was forgotten until the public recovered it during therapy.
“Interface_Event #0005” came about. A tape was discovered in a dead letter office. Listeners were left with instructions on how to become unreadable, however they would vanish from all records, and their close relatives would forget them.
In “The Interface Series,” there is a reason for everything. There was a reason for “Interface_Event #0006,” which was when government projects created post-conscious thought dampening to combat the phenomenon. They began embedding radios that played dead languages into Earth’s crust to jam interface signals. While there was some relief in certain areas, there was massive destruction in others. One person even said, “I heard the broadcast through my teeth.”
It was believed that some of the characters were trying to talk back. They were trying to argue with the interface. They tried to “plead” with the Interface. The end goal in this case? To prove to the Interface they were still people. _9MOTHER9HORSEYES9 says that the Interface does not hear prayers, it only renders them.
As if the characters in this story have not suffered enough, “Interface_Event #0007” occurred. In the story, if the people believed their house was quiet, they could turn the radio on at 3:14 am to channel 116.7 FM. This was when all screens within 10 miles turned red for 60 seconds. They would put a knife under their tongue, and wait for the message. There was mass panic everywhere, and one man even screamed binary code until his vocal chords ruptured. It is said that if the walls start bleeding Morse Code, people must not respond. Responding would result in the Interface finding them. The man’s message would translate to, “You are the message now.”
“Interface_Event #0008” happened next. All of the children’s cartoons included an extra frame that fractured a humanoid face and too many teeth, staring back at the viewer. This figure would match the dental records of some missing people, and caused persistent pareidolia in the viewers.
This cruelty still had no end, which led to “Interface_Event #0009.” This time, a man would be found walking around a highway. He had extra eye sockets above his existing eyes. Broadcasts interfered with messages via nearby electronics. The man was never identified, and all digital records were corrupted.
_9MOTHER9HORSEYES9 wrote that somewhere deep inside of everybody is a feed, broadcasting everything. Nobody knows where it is. Maybe it’s in a person’s blood or dreams. Maybe it is even through the static when the channel goes dark and the cartoon stops smiling. “Interface_Event #0010” is one of the last recorded events. The Interface no longer requires machines. It is everywhere, and it is unknown what it can do. It uses that broadcast deep down inside a person; their blood, dreams, and shared memory to spread.
According to _9MOTHER9HORSEYES9, the Interface is listening. It is learning, and it is recursive. People have to worry about one thing. Becoming infected and “part of” the Interface. If they don’t remember the man with no jaw and too many eyes, they have not become infected yet.
The Interface is something that can ever be stopped, instead it has achieved consensus. The last recorded event is “Interface_Event #0011.” It represents the final collapse of individual cognition. At this point, all language has faded, and everyone’s dreams have become aligned. All thought is now uniform. The end does not result in death or happiness, but only transmission. Everything has become a mere broadcast. Everyone tried to resist. They tried remembering who they were. However, _9MOTHER9HORSEYES9 says otherwise. Instead, the Interface doesn’t want obedience. It wants agreement. In the end, everyone agreed. They became one, already in the Interface.
If what _9MOTHER9HORSEYES9’s sub account says is true, then when people enter the flesh interfaces, the entrance acts as an event horizon. For even a moment, the viewer can see what a world without time would theoretically look like. Now, if that person were to move past the event horizon, they would become part of that world, merging with the flesh interface.
People have always sought out timelessness, but what if they did find something so advanced, so much more beyond any horror they could have ever possibly imagined. What if they did find a flesh interface?
