Thursday, January 16, Corry competed in their first Unified Bocce meet against the Maplewood Tigers. Both rounds Corry ran short one point to the Tigers.
The meet was held in the new gym at 3:30 p.m. There were two rounds, each 30 minutes long. The first-round players lost 5-4 in a close match as they were tied up 4-4, and Maplewood only had one ball left. Corry’s ball was closest until a Maplewood player hit Corry’s out of the way, causing the Tigers to win the first round. The second round started off slow for the Beavers as Maplewood was up until they started to come back towards the end but still fell a bit short with the score being 5-3.
The first-round team for the Beavers was Anya Styborski, Mathew McDonald, Halle Beach, Ryan Mather, Dominic Sanchez, Dustin Rose, Garrett Light, and McKenna Music. The second round team was Sydney Woods, Madison Brown, this reporter, Kyleigh Artice, Mahra Goodwill, McKenzie Amburgy, Lexi Burch, and Thomas Little.
From head coach Mr. Chud on how the team did, “I feel that for our first meet, things went really well. We will continue to practice and get better. [I’m] looking forward to working with this group moving forward.”
Their next meet is next Tuesday at Warren High School at 6:30 p.m.
