The most prized coaching candidate of this off-season has made up his mind. He will be the new head coach of the Chicago Bears and will take over as an offensive mastermind working with 2024 first overall pick Caleb Williams.
Johnson signing to Chicago was a bit of a surprise as the Raiders were looking like the clear favorites to hook him in with help from Tom Brady, but coaching Williams was too big of an opportunity to pass up on for Ben Johnson.
The question from here is: who will the Bears hire as their coordinators? Rumors are around the league that Johnson already had a staff in mind and has been reaching out before the Lions were even eliminated from the playoffs. New Orleans Saints former Head Coach Dennis Allen is a name that the Bears are likely to hire at their defensive coordinator position. Another coordinator that Ben Johnson has had planned is special teams coordinator. The Bears are rumored to hire New Orleans Saints interim head coach Darren Rizzi.
There is no question the Bears need some improvement this off-season. They need to focus on the trenches getting offensive linemen. They could also use another pass rusher. With the 10th pick in the draft they could focus on these things, or they could go the route in free agency and draft a skill position player like Ashton Jeanty.
These questions are all for Ryan Poles and Kevin Warren to figure out, but they got their head coach right, and that is the first step to turn their team around.
