On April 9, Luka Doncic returned to Dallas in a huge game where he dropped 45 points against his old team, the Mavericks.
Now playing for the Los Angeles Lakers, Doncic looked unstoppable on the court, hitting shots from everywhere and showing off his crazy playmaking. Even though he was on the other team, a lot of Mavericks fans still cheered for him because he used to be the face of their franchise.
The game was pretty emotional. The Mavs played a video tribute before tip-off, and the whole crowd gave him a standing ovation. You could tell Luka appreciated it, but once the game started, he was all business. He made tough step-back threes, got to the rim with ease, and controlled the game like only he can. By the end of the night, he had led the Lakers to a 112–97 win, and the Mavericks couldn’t do anything to stop him.
After the game, Luka talked about how much Dallas still meant to him, but that he’s focused on winning in L.A. now. It was kind of sad for Mavs fans to watch their old star go off against them, but it also showed just how talented he still is. The night felt like the end of an era and the start of a new one, all in one game.
