The fantasy book “Fourth Wing” by Rebecca Yarros will have you in the clouds. This book is filled with suspense, romance, dragons, secrets, and war. We follow Violet Sorrengail as she gets thrown into the riders quadrant by her commanding general mother, after growing up and training to be in the scribe quadrant. She must pass a handful of trials in order to become a dragon rider along with hundreds of other candidates. If she makes it she then has to hope a dragon is willing to bond with her or else she will have to do it all over again the next year or worse, the dragons will turn her to dust. Due to her mother’s reputation, many people are out to get her as revenge. Told by her sister to stay away from Xaden Riorson as he has the most grudge against her mother and will kill her in an instant, while staying close to her lifelong best friend Dain Aetos.
Fighting for her life to become a rider even though she’s fragile and easily breakable with a giant target on her back, we follow her as she makes friends, discovers secrets, falls for people, and loses people. Will she survive until the end? Will she become a dragon rider or will she die before she even passes the tests?
This book was intended for teens and young adults: it has romance but it is not purely revolved around the relationships. The book has many themes including trust, secrets, and life or death. Yarros does an amazing job at fitting all of these themes together with a variety of plot twists and mysteries. I couldn’t put this book down.
5/5 – Highly Recommend
