NHS sponsors Corry's annual blood drive this week

Corry High School will host its annual blood drive on Friday, March 27, in the East gym lobby, with appointments available from 8:45 a.m. through 1:15 p.m.

Organized in partnership with the Community Blood Bank, the drive ensures that nearly all donations stay local within Erie County, directly supporting nearby hospitals and trauma centers. Each donation will also be carefully screened for blood borne diseases and reported immediately, helping protect both donors and recipients while maintaining a safe and reliable blood supply.

Students interested in donating can sign up during lunches on Wednesday, March 25, where a representative from the Community Blood Bank will be available. While it is preferred that participants register by Thursday, March 26, walk-ins may still be accepted on the day of the event. To be eligible, donors must be at least 16 years old with parental consent, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, and be in generally good health. Additionally, students must not have received any tattoos or piercings within the past three months and should come prepared by eating a full meal and staying well-hydrated.

The blood drive, which has been a longstanding tradition at the school, is sponsored and run by the National Honor Society, with both a fall and spring drive held each year.

Along with the opportunity to help save lives, donors will be entered into a drawing to win either a gaming system of their choice or a $500 MasterCard gift card. Students who donate four times during their high school career will also be entered in a drawing for a $1,000 college or trade school scholarship, adding an extra incentive to give back to the community.
