When my sister Abby Sherwood (now Abby Proctor) was a senior in high school she came upstairs one day to our whole family. She looked upset and scared. We were all concerned asking what was wrong, that is when she told us she was pregnant. I was so excited but I was also nervous that I would not be good enough.
The day came June, 22, 2022, and she was in the hospital when I had school. I could barely focus on anything. I was constantly checking my phone for hours and hours, waiting nervously for any updates awaiting the arrival of my nephew Braxton Joesph Proctor.
Finally, after hours of no updates I officially got the text that he was here and healthy and Abby was also healthy and everything went very well. I felt so relieved when I got pictures and he was so small and adorable I could barley contain my excitement.
Days later they got out of the hospital and they came to the house. I got to hold him for the first time and I knew from the moment I saw him I had to be the best aunt for him. His birth made me realize I could love a little human more than myself even without them being able to talk.
He is now 3 years old and I babysit him all the time. Being an aunt is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I also now have a 1-year-old niece, Sara Rose-ann Proctor, and she makes being an aunt even better as well. Being an aunt is so special and I wish everyone could experience it.
