Spooky season is over, however, that doesn’t mean that you have to stop watching spooky movies! Two weeks ago, I was searching for a film to do a review on, but I wanted to review one that I’ve never seen before. My dad suggested the 2007 film “Disturbia,” and I’m glad he did. This film showed all the right amounts of suspense and creepiness, with a hint of comedy and romance as well. So, if you are looking for a suspenseful film to watch, but you want to try something new, watch “Disturbia.” I promise that it will not disappoint.
The movie follows the story of 18-year-old Kale Brecht (Shia LaBeouf). After being recently put under house arrest for punching his Spanish teacher across the face, Kale has nothing to do. He is completely and utterly bored until he meets Ashley (Sarah Roemer). The two become close friends and start to suspect that their neighbor Mr. Turner (David Morse) is up to something. Reports of missing women have been all over the news and all these women vanished right after getting into the 1960s Ford Mustang with a dented fender, similar to the vehicle Mr. Turner has. The two believe that Turner is the cause of these disappearances, and begin to work together to discover their neighbor’s dark secret.
This film literally had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I thought it held amazing suspense and had my heart racing multiple times. Overall, it was a great film. It did have some horror clichés that probably could have been left out, but I truly enjoyed watching this movie. I grew attached to these characters easily and thought the plot was very interesting and easy to follow. I also loved how it paid tribute to the 1954 Alfred Hitchcock film, “Rear Window.”
The film is rated PG-13 due to gore and some scary and intense scenes. I would agree with this rating just because I even got a little squeamish at some points. I don’t think that kids under the age of 11 should watch this film, unless they have a high fear tolerance.
I give this movie a solid 4/5 stars, and would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys watching mystery/thriller films. It kept me on the edge of my seat and I thought it had a great story overall. I would definitely watch this movie again, and hope that you will take this suggestion into consideration.
