Urban legends. We know them, we familiarize ourselves with them, some of us even fear them. Time and time again there are stories of these legends becoming reality. But, what really happens when someone has an urban legend experience? (At least, has an encounter with one) What happens if they survive it? Well, allow me to tell you a story.
June 1994
It was June of 1994, and six teenage friends. Their names were Samantha (or Sam for short) Amy, Hannah, Fritz, Jeremy, and Jacob had been planning out their summer break for months. It was their last summer break before graduating so, to celebrate they decided they were going to take a vacation to the Appalachia Mountains like they always wanted to.
At the time, their parents all worked together in Urbex Labs (a top secret organization that dealt with unidentified creatures in attempt to contain them and study their behaviors, and how they co-existed with humans.) They were going on a big business trip for research purposes. Of course, their kids never knew what their jobs were, but trusted their parents would do well.
“Bye mom, bye dad,” said Jeremy to his parents. His parents hugged him, and proceeded to load their equipment up into the lab’s vehicles.
“Goodbye,” said Samantha cheerfully. Fritz said his goodbyes to his dad, and carried on getting his bags into Jeremy’s truck. Hannah left to say bye to her parents, and joked around with them, until everyone was ready to go.
Sam only cried, saying by to her mom. “Goodbye, mom. Please stay safe.” She hugged her dad. “Save me some ice cream if you get any!” Sam was actually horrified of parents’jobs, she never knew what they actually did, and feared everyday something bad would happen. Her mom hugged Sam, and released her one last time.
“Don’t cry Sam, we’ll be back. Now, go spend time with your friends, and don’t worry about us,” Her dad said, reassuringly. Sam smiled, and dried her tears, trusting her parents words.
Jacob said his final goodbyes to his parents, along with Amy, who was wishing her parents luck. Everyone hugged their parents one last time, watching them leave, before loading their bags into Jeremy’s truck, and driving away.
