On May 5, the Corry Beavers traveled to Oil City for the 24th Annual Oil City Track and Field Invitational where sophomore Blake Cook beat the 21-year-old high school’s 3oom hurdles record.
Blake Cook’s advice to others is “Track is 90% genetics, but its how much you put into that 10%.”
A few why Blake Cook was able to break the record are that he does a lot of work in the off-season, whether that’s lifting or doing indoor track.
Cook said he was very happy and grateful to break the record, but he did say that it went straight to his head. Blake had to run a 40-second flat in order to break the record; he ran a 39.9. The previous holder of the record was Dan Davis 21 years ago.
Blake will continue this season by heading to Slippery Rock University for Districts on May 18th. He will be trying to punch his ticket to states by hopefully winning any of his two events.
