Beavers baseball late surge leads to win over Wildcats

Tuesday, April 22, The Corry Beavers baseball team (2-5) took on the Northwestern Wildcats (2-7) at the Columbus Ball Park.  The Beavers were coming over a week’s rest because two of the scheduled games were postponed. On the other hand, the Wildcats were coming off of a tough loss against region opponent North East. Both teams were seeking their first region win. There was feisty tension in the air, with bad-blood flowing back and forth. Both teams were pitching their ace in hopes of stealing a win.

The Wildcats lead off the first inning with a double, until the Beavers ultimately ended the Wildcats scoring opportunity with two strike outs and a caught stealing. The Beavers started slow with their first three batters failing to reach 1st base. Up until the 3rd inning, the game was scoreless, until the Wildcats scored the first two runs of the game on a base hit single to left field taking a 2-0 lead.

Fast forward to the bottom of the fifth when the Beavers finally got the bats going. Senior Karson Chamberlin hit a double down the right field line and eventually scored on two passed balls. Junior Kamdyn Moon then got a board with a walk, and a ball hit by Junior Wyatt Swan scored him.

In the 6th inning, the Wildcats scored one run after a lead off double put a runner on, and another double scored their 3rd run. This forced the Beavers to make a pitching change, sending Karson Chamberlin to the mound and shutting down the Wildcats for the rest of the game. In the bottom of the 6th inning, sophomore Carson Braswell led off the inning with a single. Senior Aiden Trask then advanced Braswell to second with a line drive off the pitcher. With the bases loaded, freshman Jeremiah Johnson singled to the outfield scoring a run for the Beavers and tying the game at 3. Karson Chamberlin then got hit by a pitch, scoring a run and giving the Beavers the lead. Kamdyn Moon came to the plate, who singled to right field scoring freshman Jackson Lathrop from third. On a passed ball, Jeremiah Johnson scored the final run of the game for the Beavers giving them a 6-3 lead.

Karson Chamberlin shut down the Wildcats in the 7th inning, propelling the beavers to their third win of the season, 6-3 over the Bobcats.
