One of the biggest letdowns in Oscar history

One+of+the+biggest+letdowns+in+Oscar++history

The Oscars, another massive event where celebrities win awards and cheer on other performers. With multiple movies and shows coming out every year, there have always been many instances where fans don’t agree with the nominations or even the winners. Because of this, the internet goes on a frenzy spreading their opinions. On Tuesday, January 23, the 2024 Oscar nominees were released to the public, and let’s just say that it had many people baffled.

A new rendition and biggest hit of the year: the live-action “Barbie” came out July 1, 2023. Lots of people were excited because it showcased the patriarchy that women have to face. Many related to the film and often got emotional when realizing how personal it was. You would think that other people would agree. Just days ago it came to the public’s attention that only two of the supporting actors, Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera, were nominated.

Many people disagree by stating “It didn’t direct itself.” Other members of the movie, including Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig who played significant roles, were passed in some major categories. This created immense backlash for people involved in The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. Many online users have protested and shared their thoughts by saying that it is unfair and goes against what the movie is really about. With strong opinions from many like TV host Julie Stewart-Blinks who stated, “How is this even possible? Margot Robbie not nominated, but Ryan Gosling is? Did anyone even understand the plot of the highest grossing movie of all time?”

Gosling has been given a hard time from “Barbie” fans as well. Many say that he doesn’t deserve his award because his role wasn’t as important. He too has been dragged through the media but is trying to keep the peace when he said “There is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie.” Many people were confused by this statement saying that it is unusual and it targeted the Academy’s nominators.

It all comes down to what people think. Do you think it is unfair that two main contributors of the movie didn’t get nominated? Or are you happy with the supporting actor nominees? I guess it all comes down to what will happen on March 10, 2024.
