For the first time in three years, the Lady Beavers Volleyball team are region champs. The last time they held the title of region champs was back in 2019 with the senior class of ’20 Maddi Vona, Meg Goodsel, and Indya Berkhous.
On Tuesday, October 17, the Lady Beavers headed up to North East High school to face the previous D-10 and Region 4 champions the North East Grape Pickers. The Lady Beavers went into the game with a record of 12-0 overall and 9-0 in the region, whereas North East had a record of 13-1 and 8-0. The Pickers first and only region loss of the season was against the Beavers. Last year Corry Played North East at home, and they beat them in four sets. Then they saw each other again at the D-10 championship game, and it was a 3-0 sweep for the North East Grape Pickers. Not this year, though. Corry came out onto the court with confidence that they were going to take home the win, and there was no better win then beating them on their home court.
All the players contributed to each and every point pushing each other to do their best. They really played as a team, and they won as a team. The starting line up is made up of six juniors and one freshman. Junior setter #16, Payton McCray, junior right side hitter #28, Allison Sawyer, junior middle hitter #25, Sadye Dyne, junior middle hitter #12, Aubrey Chase, junior libero #5, Makenna Moore, junior outside hitterĀ #1, Halle Albers, and freshman outside hitter #29, Grace Allen. The other juniors who sub in are junior D/S #2, Sydney Woods, junior setter #27, Kendyll Chamberlin, and junior right side hitter #23, Emmalee Carr.
It was a clean sweep for the Lady Beavers, but it wasn’t so easy. The Pickers fought tooth and nail for every point, and the Beavers never let up, or got down. The first set the Lady Beavers came out with a lot of energy, and it was neck and neck the whole game. Throughout the whole night the Beavers kept up the same energy and defeated the Grape Pickers in three consecutive sets.
