Known for his humor, wisdom, and love for inspiring, Mr. Gary Hogue is a teacher who has left a lasting mark on his students. Born on December 1, Mr. Hogue grew up in the Millcreek Mall area of Erie and attended McDowell High School, graduating in 1985 before going on to Penn State Behrend, Edinboro University, and Erie Institute of Technology.
Outside the classroom, Hogue enjoys movies, music, and spending time with puppies. His favorite song is “Comfortably Numb” by Pink Floyd, a fitting choice for someone who appreciates creativity and emotion. He describes his favorite food as steak, and his favorite class to teach is sociology, particularly with juniors and seniors.
When asked what motivates him, Hogue said his goal is to inspire young people and make a positive difference in their lives. His biggest pet peeve? “Liars,” he said plainly, a reflection of his straightforward and honest personality.
If given the chance to travel anywhere, Hogue would choose Europe, drawn to its history, culture, and food. His idea of a perfect date involves being content and sharing a good dinner.
Hogue’s favorite quote, by Socrates, sums up his thoughtful nature: “The unexamined life is not worth living.” His advice to students: follow the Golden Rule, “Treat people the way you want to be treated.”
Whether discussing music, mentoring students, or sharing life lessons, Mr. Hogue continues to inspire those around him with honesty, humor, and heart.
