(Disclaimer: Because this film was originally rated R, it is not recommended for viewing without parental permission)
“Ted” is an unfiltered and outrageous comedy that combines imagination and adult contempt. Brought into reality by Seth MacFarlane, the film, which stars Mark Wahlberg, features a man named John Bennett, whose childhood dream of having his teddy bear come to life is granted. A foul-mouthed irreverent bear comes to life and transforms into Ted, a teddy bear that leaves a trail of trouble in his wake. Even with the bear acting wild, Wahberg’s character is trying his best to appease his girlfriend Lori. This awkward relationship filled with funny moments is the heart of the movie.
It is certain that the core concept is strange, but MacFarlane makes it work as directing and being Ted’s voice. His intelligence and strong irreverant humor carry the film through its most crazy cases. And the bond of Wahlberg and Kunis (being John and Lori) adds some emotional feeling to the otherwise ridiculous proposal.
Wahlberg plays his part very well, often just the right degree of disbelief and exasperation of Ted’s antics. Kunis makes a perfect long-suffering girlfriend that finally has it with her immature boyfriend and his sentient teddy bear.
Overall, this movie is a good comedy but it is definitely not for the younger audience since it was originally rated R. It doesn’t have the greatest plot or storyline, but it is meant for a good laugh. I would give it a 4/5 .
