“Silvia wake up, we are leaving in five minutes” Called my Mom, I get up and get dressed and head down stairs with my bag. I pack it into the car and grab a piece of toast for the road. I get in the car and ask my mom when we will get there. She said “We will be there in three and a half hours after we pick up your boyfriend.” I lay down in the back seat and took a nap before we got to Adam’s house. I sit up and Alison climbs in the car, we are back on the road and Adam and I are texting so we can have our own private conversation. We were 2 hours in when we stopped for breakfast. I got hash browns and an iced coffee and Adam got a breakfast sandwich with an iced coffee. Then once we got there we had to hike up the mountain for another hour.
We finally reached the top, we set all the stuff down and began to build our tents. My dad quickly finished their tent while I was still struggling, Adam finished his tent and came over and helped me. We then go and gather firewood so we can cook our dinner tonight. Adam and I go a little higher in the mountain just to be alone. We then climbed a tree and we could see everything from there. We could see the campsite and the car at the bottom of the mountain. It was so cool. We go back and tell my parents about it and ask them if we could go back and watch the sunset, they say yes.
A while later we go back after we eat dinner and we watch the sunset. I look at him and see him looking at me. I blush, I think to myself I probably look like a tomato. I look back at the sky but I still feel him looking at me. I look back at him and think could this be my first kiss could it actually be. When suddenly the tree shakes. We start to rush out of the tree thinking the tree is falling. I look down and see someone holding an axe. I’m scared now, I tell Adam and he sees a mask on him. He tells me to move to the other side of the tree. I ask him if i should go down and he says I go down first. So I move to the side so he can go down. Before we get within earshot of the guy in the mask he tells me once we get to the bottom trust him and run to save yourself even if I die.
We get to the bottom and he points the direction to the camp. Then he puts his fingers up with 3, then 2 ,then 1. I started running the direction he pointed but he was not following me he ran the other way. The guy starts chasing after Adam. I don’t know what to do. I stop and wonder what I will do. I know there is a cliff that way. I follow slowly and then I see Adam jump off the cliff. I get scared but I know I have to run so I start running back to the camp so I can tell my parents.
I get back to the campsite knowing Adam is dead. I tell my parents exactly what happened. My dad grabs a knife and asks if the guy in the mask followed. I said “I don’t think so but he knew what direction I went.” My dad hands me the knife and he grabs the shotgun for himself and the pistol for my mom. We were ready for anything. We see something moving in the woods but we can’t tell what it is. My dad points his gun at it but I tell him to stop because It could be a deer. There is a noise right behind us, we all turn and look.
I see someone, it’s Adam. I ran to him, hugged him and asked how he survived? He told me that there was a ledge with a fallen tree on it and he got to the ledge and hid under the tree. I ask if he’s hurt and he says he hurt his leg when he fell to the ledge. I then ask how he got back? He said “I Climbed and then went around hoping I wasn’t being followed. At that very moment an axe was thrown at us and it hit my mom right in the stomach. My dad turns around and shouts his gun at him. He hits him in the arm. The guy comes running at us but Adam runs at him, he looks confused. My dad runs to my mom. I see Adam punch him in the face a couple times until he is knocked out. He then gets up and we both run to my mom.
My dad tells me to run down the mountain and call the cops because we don’t have service up here. We run down, call 911 and wait for them to show up. Once they got here we ran back up the mountain and showed not even stopping once to catch our breath. We got back and they arrested the guy in the mask and rushed my mom to the hospital. As we all wait in the waiting room to find out if my mom is going to survive. I find myself reliving every single moment every time I close my eyes. A doctor comes out and tells us she didn’t make it. We all break out into tears. I can tell Adam thinks it all his fault, we comfort each other. My dad tells me it’s gonna be okay.
