My top 10 favorite television shows

My top 10 favorite television shows

Television has been a highly admired and appreciated invention since the 1920s. With hundreds of TV shows being easily accessible to people across the globe through streaming services and other outlets, it is safe to assume that everyone has at least one show they can call their favorite. Over the course of my life, I have watched plenty of television shows. However, out of every show I’ve seen there are definitely a few that have really stood out to me. Moving on, these are my current top 10 favorite television shows:

10. Gilmore Girls

“Gilmore Girls” is a series that I have been recently introduced to, and it is safe to say that it has secured a spot on my list of favorite shows. The series follows the life of the iconic mother-daughter duo, Lorelei and Rory Gilmore, as they make their way through life and all of its complications. At first, I was not super interested in the show because it starts off relatively slow. However, as I kept watching I started to understand why it is so beloved by many. Watching Lorelei and Rory’s dynamic as not only mother and daughter, but also best friends, makes their relationship so unique and interesting to learn more about. The show’s romantic and dramatic sub-plots are also just as alluring as the main plot, which make the series that much more entertaining. Overall, I really enjoy “Gilmore Girls” and I am very glad I gave it a chance.

9. Glee

As a girl who actively participates in choir, “Glee” making an appearance on this list is probably no surprise. “Glee” follows a group of talented outcasts who attempt to escape their harsh school environment by joining the school’s show choir, otherwise known as “glee club.” Obviously, one reason why I love this series is because I am a big fan of music and I love listening to the covered songs sung by the characters. Other than the great covers, I really like that the plot is overall comedic, while still touching on a few serious subjects that many teenagers could relate to.

8. Scream Queens

The horror-comedy series, “Scream Queens,” shares the story of a fictional sorority and fraternity who are being hunted by a killer who just so happens to be disguised as their school’s mascot, “The Red Devil.” I added this show to my list particularly because of the first season, as I am not the biggest fan of the second season. I have re-watched the first season of “Scream Queens” many, many times, and at this point it has become a comfort show of mine. I find the plot and events to be very amusing considering it meshes two of my favorite genres: horror and comedy. Although it is definitely cheesy at times, I always get a good laugh out of it. Despite the comedic relief, the show still maintains a captivating storyline that is easy to follow along with.

7. White Lotus

“White Lotus” follows various guests and employees of the fictional White Lotus hotel chain, exploiting their greatest secrets and dysfunctional tendencies. This series explores the life of completely different people all coincidently in the same place at the same time. The plot of this show is such a fun concept in my opinion because we see people all the time every day, but you truly have no idea what they are up to in their personal lives. Aside from the main concept, “White Lotus” is incredibly captivating as the drama and mystery left me wanting more after every episode.

6. Shameless

The series “Shameless” documents the low class life of the Gallagher family in Chicago. I love “Shameless” because I admire the close family relationships that are portrayed in the show. No matter what kind of trouble any of the Gallaghers are getting themselves into, they also stand by each other’s side. Other than this, I enjoy the show’s humor and gripping plot. The characters’ actions are often unpredictable, keeping the show interesting and absorbing.

5. Bridgerton

“Bridgerton” follows the eight Bridgerton siblings and their peers as they search for love during the social season and navigate life through Regency-era England. This series shares a mixture of romance, drama, and mystery: three of my personal favorite genres. A small detail about the show that I really enjoy is that all of the music is instrumental adaptations of modern music. Though it is minor, it’s cool to watch your favorite characters ballroom dancing to your favorite songs. Aside from the soundtrack, I also absolutely love the wardrobe for the series. I’m obsessed with the bright twist that the costume designer put on classic regency-era silhouettes and shapes.

4. Pen15

The comedy series “Pen15” highlights the life of two girls, Anna and Maya, as they navigate through the many wonders of middle school. Something that is particularly interesting about this series is that it was created and loosely based on the experiences of two best friends in real life, Maya Erkshine and Anna Konkle, who play themselves. Although the show is hilariously dramatic and comedic, the consistent underlying theme of unbreakable friendship adds a sense of lightheartedness to the series. Despite the events in the series being very, very bizarre and overplayed, I like that it is still somewhat relatable. My personal friendships mean the world to me, and I appreciate that I can see myself and my friends in some of the characters.

3. Stranger Things

At this point, I believe it is safe to say that most people and their mothers have watched “Stranger Things.” Nonetheless, “Stranger Things” highlights a group of children who battle the supernatural beings that appear in their town following the unexpected disappearance of their friend, “Will Byers.” To say that this is an incredible show would be an understatement. From the insane visuals and special effects to the totally 80’s soundtrack, wardrobe and striking drama, “Stranger Things”  is the perfect example of a 10/10 series.

2. Euphoria

The series, “Euphoria,” follows a group of friends navigating their wild lives as high school students. Without being too graphic, the show contains many themes and ideas that could be very relatable to some young adults. Even if you don’t relate to any of the hard-hitting aspects, I believe that every character is going through something or another that people could easily connect with. Going on, it is very interesting to watch how the characters handle their difficult situations. Watching their lives unfold in often unpredictable ways always keeps me coming back for more.

1. Yellowjackets

The show, “Yellowjackets,” features a girls soccer team who undergoes the trauma of a plane crash while on their way to Nationals. While the main focus of the series is how the team survives (or otherwise) in the wilderness for 19 months, the show flips back and forth from the girls’ lives before the crash, during the crash, and 20 years after they are discovered and rescued. I find this show particularly entertaining because of the constant mystery of who will survive and the wild extent that the girls will go to in order to do so. I love that the series flips back and forth from the past and present because it is interesting to see how that kind of experience altered the team members’ lives in so many different ways. Overall, this is my favorite show on this list, and I am itching for the third season to be released.
