Caitlin Clark breaks the NCAA basketball scoring record

On Sunday, March 3, Iowa Hawkeyes Women’s Basketball star Caitlin Clark passed the previous record of most points scored by a Division 1 basketball player, men and women.

On February 15, in a game against the Michigan Wolverines, Caitlin Clark beat the women’s record for the most career points set by Kelsey Plum at 3,527 points. Clark passed that record with a logo shot three-pointer. The crowd went wild as she humbly went back down the court and continued defense.

On Sunday, the #6 Hawkeyes were the home team and played the #2 Ohio State Buckeyes. At the very end of the second quarter, Clark tied the record with her first foul shot, and then beat it with her second. The crowd gave her a standing ovation as the quarter ended after her shots.

Caitlin Clark broke the NCAA Division 1 record set by Pete Maravich in 1970. Maravich scored 3,667 points, but Clark scored 3,687 points.

The new record set by Clark is historical, as she passed the all time record, set by a male. The Hawkeyes’ next game is to be determined for the Big Ten Tournament.
