There have been a lot of “first-times” going around Corry recently. The middle school football team is heading to the championships for the first time in Corry history. They came out victorious against North East last Wednesday, ending with a 36-0 shut out game. Spirits were high on Sheen Field after the convincing victory.
Corry’s record was 5-1, same as both General McLane and Harborcreek. In order for Corry to move on, one of the other two teams had to lose. The hope was for Harborcreek to lose, as Corry had already faced General McLane in the regular season, and beat them 20-14. Harborcreek played Fort LeBoeuf and fell 36-48, which sent Corry into the championships.
Coach Craig Jaquith noted how well the team played and the “team effort” was very evident throughout the game. Every player on the field worked to the best of their ability and shared the same goal in mind: winning. Their hard work throughout the season paid off by the end of the game, though, when they left North East with a blazing “0” on the board.
The team will play away at General McLane tomorrow, with kickoff at 6 p.m.
Pack the stadium tomorrow to support these athletes as they take on the Lancers tomorrow night. Congratulations to the boys on their hard work so far this season and best of luck tomorrow.
