Dance To The Beat competed at a local dance competition this past Memorial Day weekend. This was like a home game for them, being the closest place to Corry at which they have ever competed. They did absolutely great to say the least

A group containing Karleigh Moon, Elise Boucher, Tenley Murphey, Camila Whitely, Sarah Whitely, Charlotte Goodwill, Amarah Jordan, Finley Mitchell, Layla Mosher, Taylor Sproveri, Avery McCray, and Tori Yoder competed with a jazz dance and a lyrical dance. These dancers competed in the large group division, and they took home 1st place overall for their jazz dance and 2nd overall for lyrical. The jazz dance got a special entertainment award out of only a few dances selected. This dance also got an invitation to the World Dance Championships, and got the title of Regional Champions. This means they were the highest scoring dance in their level, out of all small groups, large groups, solos, duos and trios! Their lyrical dance also got a special award, a choreography award, meaning they thought Alex Fox’s choreography for this dance was one of the best, and they only handed out a few of these awards.

Next was the newest company members dancing: Lily Amy, Rylyn Gurdak, Monique Johnson, and Madison Damcott competed in a cute jazz dance, which  placed 1st overall in their division. The juniors, Shawntel Dyne, Mac Ricketts, Evie Beckman, Cadence Miller, Mikayla Jackson, and Halle Beach also competed in one jazz dance and one lyrical. Their lyrical piece placed 2nd overall in their division, and their jazz took 1st place. Their jazz also got an invitation to the World Dance Championships, and also was Regional Champions in their level.

The senior dancers, including this reporter, Audrey Baker, Kenzie Knight, Willow Bowen, Jonas Anthony and Izzy Kellogg, performed their dances. Their lyrical dance placed 2nd overall and their fun jazz took home 1st place overall. This is the first time their jazz dance has placed higher than the lyrical; the jazz dance received an entertainment award which was only given to a few dances, it got an invitation to the World Dance Championships, and was also titled Regional Champions, scoring higher than any dance competing in their level. Juniors and seniors combined to perform a hip-hop large group and a lyrical large group. The cool hip-hop dance placed 2nd overall, and the touching lyrical placed 1st.

Soloists placements were not included in this article, but they all did great as well. They all either placed in the top scores, or received a special judges award.

This wasn’t the last of these dances, however, as they will continue to practice for Nexstar Nationals, taking place in less than one month, in Sandusky, Ohio. Dancers will be spending the last week of June at the Kalahari Resort competing against some of the best dancers in the country.
