On Thursday, Feburary 19, 2026. The Women’s United States team took on Canada in the gold medal match in Milan, Italy.
USA came into this game on a hot streak, winning all of their previous games without allowing a goal. They previously beat Canada in the prelims 5-0.
Fifty-four seconds into the second period, Canada struck first on a shorthanded goal. It was Canada’s own Kristin O’Neill to put the puck into the back of the net, she was assisted by Laura Stacy and Renata Fast.
With just two minutes and twenty-three seconds left in the third period, the United States found the back of the net off a deflection.
It was the US Captain Hilary Knight. That goal made her the all time women’s point leader in Olympic history for the US with 33. It was tied 1-1 at the end of the third period, that means there is overtime for the goal medal.
In overtime it was assistant captain Megan Keller’s turn to fake out the defender, skating past her and putting the puck between the goalie’s legs to bury the Canadians’ hopes on getting a gold medal.
This is the first gold medal the USA Women’s Hockey team has brought home since 2018 when they beat Canada in a dramatic shootout.
The men’s team is hopeful to bring home a gold medal as well. The gold medal game for men’s hockey is Sunday, February 22.
