The usual topic for sports reporting is a big sports team doing something crazy or something really bad happening. No one really notices the little teams, like high school teams, and sometimes not even college teams, let alone a ninth-grade basketball team. So here is how the Corry Beavers ninth-grade basketball team is doing so far based on the 25 questions Coach Luther was asked.
I asked how the season is going so far and he said “Way better than last year.” Our record is already way more outstanding than our record last year. Our record this year is 2 wins and 3 losses compared to last year when we went 4 wins and 13 losses.” Coach would like us to go 12 wins and 5 losses on the season so we can only lose 2 games the rest of the season. The only way we could do that is if we work as a team and don’t make any mistakes so who knows if we will make that goal or not.
When it comes to being able to score we have so many different people for so many differnt scoring abilities. When it comes to shooting 3 pointers Coach Luther said this reporter was the person for that. On the other side, he said the person for driving to the hoop is David Beckman and finishing tough layups. For the put back layups and scoring down low he said the person for that is Hunter.
Our worst game was when we played Titusville. None of us were doing our roles; I wasn’t making threes, Hunter and Dave were mostly doing their jobs driving and going up in the paint, but we got like no rebounds, and that’s the main reason we lost is because we got like no rebounds. If we got rebounds and had better defense, we wouldn’t have lost that game. None of us were doing great and that’s why we lost.
When it comes to the defensive part of the game, we have one outstanding player and his name is David Ellis Beckman. He’s an outstanding player for our defense. He is one of the reasons we win our games. Without him we wouldn’t have a good defense. So if we can get our whole team like David I don’t think we would lose a single game. And Bentley Luther is a pretty good defender; without those two we wouldn’t have a defense.
