Corry girls wrestling victorious in first match

The Corry Lady Beavers Wrestling team started off the season with a sweep against the Hickory Hornets with a score of 42-24 on December 4.

Both Maurianna Zinz and Ryleigh Shaffer got their first varsity wins, Zinz with a fall in the third period, and Shaffer with a decision. Koda Kuzma had a pin in the first period. Makenna Williams won her match with a takedown with two seconds left and Finley Fourspring with a pin in the third period. 

When talking to Captain Makenna Williams about the overall season so far she said, “I think that some outstanding wrestlers have a good shot at making it far this year. I also think the team dynamic is very strong and we all push each other to be better everyday.”

When speaking to coach Darci Hatley, she said that “hard work pays off!” 

When hearing from captain Koda Kuzma, “I think that the season will be good because of how hard we practice and because of how our coaches and captains push us.” 

The Corry Girls wrestling team’s next match is home on Thursday against the General McLane Lancers starting at 6 p.m.; the varsity boys will follow.
