A teenager is being praised in small town Corry, PA, because of her quick thinking when rescuing 85 year old grandma from a small kitchen fire on Saturday morning.
The 17-year-old Jessica Pike noticed smoke coming from Margaret Dixon’s house as she left her home for school. Hearing the smoke alarm, she rushed inside to find Margaret disoriented as a towel was burning on the stove beside her. Jessica quickly called 911 as she guided Margaret outside gently but quickly away from the fire.
The fire crew quickly put out the small flames as Margaret was treated for some minor smoke inhalation and released soon after. Later that day she said, “Jessica saved my life and I could not be more thankful for that”
Jessica tried to play it off by saying “I just did what anyone else could do,” but she never realized that Margaret never forgot that day and has been thankful for the rest of her life.
