Corry volleyball was outstanding Tuesday, Nov. 4, as the Beavers took down powerhouse Waynesburg Central in a stunning 3-0 sweep during the state playoffs. With the stands packed and the student section roaring from warm ups to the final whistle, Corry delivered one of their most dominant performances of the season, when it mattered most.
From the opening serve, the energy inside the gym was unmatched. The packed crowd, filled with students, families, and community members, created an atmosphere that fueled Corrys momentum all night long. Every point was met with cheers that echoed through the building, as the Beavers played some of their best volleyball of the season.
Junior Grace Allen led the charge with an outstanding offensive performance, delivering key kills and maintaining consistent pressure on the Waynesburg defense.
Grace Allen thanked the community for being by their side when their back was against the wall, saying “Even though we didn’t play our cleanest, the energy in the gym was crazy and by each set we started playing better.”
Starting the matchup, Waynesburg was hot and dominant and had all the momentum through most of the first set, but Corry like always, persevered and overcame it, Allen said, “By putting a lot of pressure on them through our servers and serving the correct people, their serve receive slowly started breaking down which was key to the game.”
Even though Corry found the crack in Waynesburg game and attacked every chance they had, it didn’t come without some retaliation coming from the opposition.
Finally Allen said, “Their outside number 11 was definitely their biggest offensive weapon so we needed to adjust our block to help our defense out.”
She then finished off by thanking the Corry community for their support throughout the whole season and thanking them for leading them to their win.
Volleyball is a team sport, you need many players to do their job and do it correctly for a team to be successful. Helping Grace Allen was Corry’s star Libero/Ds Sydney Mineo. Sydney was also commented on Corry’s playoff victory and how amazing she felt it was playing at home: “It was a special night, there’s no better way to have my last game in our community, and sweep a very talented team to move on to the quarterfinals”.
Corry’s dominance did not just stop in the first round. Bald Eagle Area was the team’s next challenge, and Corry did what Corry does and swept the Eagles 3-0.
After winning 15 straight sets heading into the semi-finals of the state playoffs, Corry was set on to face the Avonworth Antelopes. Knowing this was going to be a hard-fought battle, they came into the matchup fired up. After winning the first set, Corry and its fans were ready for a dog fight. Unfortunately, Avonworth had their number and won three straight sets to take down Corry in one of the most anticipated matchups of the season.
Corry had an outstanding season, with countless wins and countless memories for the players and fans.
