The Chicago Bears winning streak is over after they suffered a road loss to the Ravens yesterday. The Bears came into this game as 2.5 point underdogs after winning four games in a row. The Ravens came in off of the bye week at 1-5.
A must-win game for the Ravens, media and analysts thought Lamar Jackson would be back on the field despite missing a couple games due to injury, but that was not the case. Tyler Huntley started in favor of Cooper Rush. The Bears banged-up secondary equaled out the quarterback disadvantage as Kyler Gordon was placed on short-term IR prior to the game, and Tyique Stevenson being ruled out. The Bears counted on Nashon Wright who was on the Minnesota Vikings practice squad last year, Nick McCloud who is a backup nickel back, and Jaylon Jones who was getting his first reps all season.
With that being said, it was a dumpster fire defensively as Chicago allowed Tyler Huntley to complete 17 of 22 passes with 186 yards and a passing touchdown to go with it. The secondary was a glaring weakness all day for the Bears. Chicago does not generate much pass rush, which means that the secondary needs to play very well and force turnovers, which they have done most of the season. But with injuries piling up, the Bears could look for some cheap options without having to waste a value pick as in a fourth or fifth rounder.
For the Bears offense it looked good for the first quarter, but they did have some struggles in the Red zone which continued throughout the game. Ben Johnson did not do a very good job at getting the run game started as it felt like the running game disappeared as a whole in the second quarter specifically. Caleb Williams continued to throw inaccurate passes and also threw an interception from Chicago’s own end zone. Williams flashes signs of being a star, but he needs to be more accurate.
Overall, it was not a good day for the Bears but they look to improve facing a Cincinatti team who is coming off of a close loss to what was a winless Jets team.
