Rounding 3rd on the fall sports season

Rounding 3rd on the fall sports season
Fall sports roundup

As we round third on our fall sports, I thought it would be good to take an inside look at all of them and how their season is going.

We will explore wins, losses*, the good and bad, and I will highlight one senior who is playing well in their last-and-most-important season.

*These stats do change almost by the day, so they come from the date of 10/6/25.

Girls Volleyball

The volleyball team is doing exceptionally well, again.

According to Maxpreps, the girls volleyball team is ranked 5th in the state! They are 24-0-3, and have won 10 matches in a row by the time I am writing this. They have tied to a very good Warren team, a decent Fort Lebouf team, and tied to Keystone, who Corry also beat afterwards.

I’d like to highlight Sydney Mineo, a senior defensive specialist and libero wearing number 22. Mineo has started on the team since her junior year. She has recorded 1 kill, 146 digs, and 16 serving aces.

On the year overall, Mineo had a few things to say.

Mineo led off by saying that practice is genuinely fun and competitive due to the freshman class being talented and the positions being deep.

She said that she is really enjoying the year, and is enjoying her role as a leader. She did note, however, that the team needs to improve on starting off strong. Overall, though, the season has been great.

Boys Football

The football team is repeating the same success as last year, being currently 5-2 and recently having a dominant win over North East.

Corry’s only losses are to Fort Leboeuf in a nail-biter, and to a very good General McLane team. They are currently 2-1 in the region, and are looking at making another push in the playoffs.

The highlight player for this talented team is Blake Cook, a senior wide receiver and corner. Last week, he had a crazy game with 12 receptions for 215 yards and 2 touchdowns. On the season, he has 23 receptions for 475 yards and 6 touchdowns, even despite playing with a backup quarterback for 3 games.

Blake is proud of how the season is going, saying that they have exceeded expectations that the school had set and that they had even set for themselves. They lost a lot of good seniors last year, but it is great that they replicated last year’s success. He noted that the team is very deep and full of young talent, and he is excited to see how the next couple weeks will go.

Boys Cross Country
Boys Cross Country

This boys cross country team is currently 2-3 in duel races so far this year, their wins coming against Eisenhower and Seneca. Most recently, they participated in the Dirty Dawg Invitational at Harbor Creek, where Bryce Chelton took 15th as their best placement.

Senior Ethan Behm is leading this team with senior teammate Paxton Zins out for the year. Behm has PR’d at 17:52 this year in the 5000m, and has consistently placed in races this year.

When I talked to him, his thoughts on the year were overall positive. He said that he definitely misses Paxton, and the team needs him. However, they are doing relatively well despite this. He also said that the new guys work hard, but as a team they need to close the gap between the guys at the front and the guys at the end.

Girls Cross Country

The girls cross country team is currently 1-4 in duels so far. They beat Union City handedly, winning 50-15. Shay Linden impressively took 2nd at the Dirty Dawg Invitational most recently, which transitions us into the spotlight player.

Shay Linden has been having an impressive season for this girls team. She has been consistently finishing high, winning 3 dual meets so far this year, and winning her first region meet of her career. She received female student athlete of the week here at Corry for this feet as well. Earlier in the year, she placed 24th at the massive Commodore Perry invitational.  She has PR’d at 21:24 this year and is looking at competing in states this year.

Shay is very happy with how she has been doing, and she is very proud. She also said that she enjoys running with the new runners, stating that they make it fun and bring a positive perspective to the sport. She is upset that the team hasn’t replicated past success, but the team is improving steadily which is also encouraging.

Girls Soccer
Girls Soccer

The girls soccer team is currently 6-7-1, most recently taking a big victory over Oil City 5-1. They are 1-2 in the region and are placed at third, their only win came from Conneaut.

Mahra Goodwill is leading this offense in goals, and is therefore our spotlight player. Mahra is a senior right forward, and this is her second year playing.  She is having an amazing season.

Mahra is very proud of how the team is playing. She had nothing but praise for the new players, saying that they are filling their roles in great ways. She said that the season is going great but the team needs to improve chemistry and passing .

Boys Soccer

The boys soccer team is having a disappointing season, posing a record of 0-13-1. Their 1 tie came against Saegertown after double OT. They are 0-9-1 in the region, posing the worst record of the 7 teams there. However, many players on the team say that they will beat Oil City in the last game of the season, so they are holding onto that hope.

Senior goalie Kingston Jackson is the spotlight player, posing 5.2 goals against average (GAA), 193 saves, and an impressive 0.1 assists per game eben as a goalie. Despite the poor record, Jackson is a bright spot on this team.

Kingston had some choice words about his team, as he is clearly upset with how they are playing. He did say that they have potential and a very high ceiling, but as of right now no one is doing their job and no one is determined to work. He noted that they really need to improve.
