The Caramat Forest: Case 16
FIRST OUTLINE: CHANGED SIGNIFICANTLY FROM HERE BUT IT IS USED AS A VERY LOOSE BASE!
The movie starts with Agent Polinzy, RCMP’s mediocre investigator, walking into his office, turning on the lights, close ups of all his hands interacting while in the room. He looks over to his desk to see a new case folder on it. He walks over to the desk, opens the folder, and picks out the pages. He puts on some readers and scans the page, rubbing his temples, he pulls out a typewriter.
He starts typing away on it and as the words show up on the page, they float up off the paper, talking about The Caramat Forest and the mysterious plot of land that seems to suck people in and never let them go, it’s all narrated by the Agent. He sighs, says the date, time, and it being Case 16, slowly floating off the paper and the screen going black with the words, THE CARAMAT FOREST: CASE 16. It fades off screen, and his voice comes back and the text shows up on screen saying, “It all started, with the crash…”
The selfie camera of Auden’s phone turns on and is facing towards the floor, you can hear them all whispering for practice on a message to their parents about their trip to Alaska. They crash the plane and they wake up on the ground face down, get up and look around, camera whirling around the group to each character, showing the plane above them, swinging from the trees. They start setting up camp, and the 2 friends break off to go to scavenge.
Time passes, shelter built, it starts raining, Auden pacing for a little, busying himself, pacing back and forth again and he comes to terms that his friends might not come back. So he just lays down in under the shelter and it shifts to his phone camera, making a message about what’s going on, and a scream rings out that sounds like one of the friends, he stands up, looks around and ends the recording.
Slowly, he starts seeing things around him, behind the trees, behind him, in the plane above, he just slowly starts sprinting in one direction and sprinting. He sees the same features like 3 times, and he stops, looks around, and he sees himself, looking directly back at him from afar. It zooms out from the woods to reveal an almost infinite forest.

SCENE ONE
[INT. Agent Polinzy’s Office]
The film cuts into a news report.
[Shot 1 and 2]
Reporter
(solemn)
Tonight on late-night news, new reports emerge of four missing individuals. Three youths and one pilot, last seen during a routine flight taxiing home from Alaska, are presumed missing after their plane lost radar contact over Northern Ontario.

If you have any information, please contact the number displayed.
The anchor’s voice trails off into a hollow echo.
Dollie + Gimbal shot:
The camera slowly zooms out to reveal a television screen. A hand reaches below the tv and the volume turns down. Polinzy sits motionless for a beat.
Then — a faint rustling draws his attention.
Bright yellow folder — sitting neatly on the center of his desk. It wasn’t there before.
Slow push-in toward the folder:
The camera lingers. Polinzy frowns.
Top-down shot:
He moves with deliberate slowness — reaching out, picking up the folder, setting it back down carefully.
He adjusts his glasses, pulls open the folder, and begins leafing through black-and-white aerial photographs, handwritten testimonies, and a blurry radar map showing the last known location.
Medium close-up on his face:
[Shot 6]
AGENT POLINZY:
(murmuring to himself)
Interesting. Been a while… hasn’t it.
The words seem to hang heavily in the air.
CUT TO:
Facing Polinzy directly, the camera slowly dollies forward.
He pulls an ancient, scarred typewriter from under the desk and sets it down with a dull thud.
His fingers start tapping out a report.
Each keystroke echoes, unnaturally loud, like gunshots in the quiet room.
As he types, the words appear floating off the page, drifting into the air like smoke.
Agent Polinzy (V.O)
The Black Caramat… Case 16.
June 12, 2022.
New report from American authorities — 4 MIA, vanished off radar, four miles from the Black Caramat zone.
(pause)
Warnings issued. Ignored. All search efforts?
Fruitless.
Sixteen cases. No survivors. No remains.
This… may be the last file I ever write.
[Shot 6b]
Agent Polinzy (narration)
(continuing)
The Caramat Forest — it pulls, it drags, and it never lets go. Maps twist. Compasses spin. Radios stutter and die. 16 cases… and not a single one with a clean ending. It’s like the ground itself refuses to give back what it takes.
As he types, the camera pushes closer to the paper. The floating words grow denser until they completely fill the frame.
CUT TO BLACK.
White text fades in slowly:
THE BLACK CARAMAT: CASE 16
Agent Polinzy (V.O.)
It all started… with the crash.
Quick cuts in and out of many perspectives of the plane, some on pieces on fire.
CUT TO INT. PLANE:
The camera turns on and they set the camera on the seat in front of everyone.
[Shot 16]
Auden
Alright, hi mom! This is just a message for you all to just say… we’re alright!
Kevin
You say that, but ATC gave us so much trouble…
Jake
Dude, my mom is gonna never let me go on any of these field trips ever again… shhhh
Auden
Yeah, we’re on our way home, there’s no reason to-
More silence, the plane begins to shake and hit turbulence.
CUT TO EXT. PLANE:
The camera flashes to the same places on the plane as before.
CUT TO BLACK:
Plane crash sounds and pre-credits roll, showing all the roles.
SCENE TWO
The screen is black, faint sounds play reverberating.
[Shot 33 and 34]
Jake
(scared)
Auden… AUDEN! Oh man, he’s not moving!
Kevin
(anxious)
Shake him more, please Auden just-
CUT TO EXT. FOREST VIEW:
Auden sits up, shooting into frame from the bottom. He has visible scratches and dirt all over. The camera dollies outward, revealing the friends on either side of him. He stands up and stumbles a bit.
[Shot 35]
Auden
(dazed)
Where… Where are we? My head hurts so much and-
Kevin
(consoling)
Hey, hey, don’t jump up too fast! We all just survived a plane crash, and you need to breathe…
[Shot 36]
CUT TO MEDIUM SHOT:
Auden’s face fills the screen, the audio is muddled and everything around him color is separated. (Chroma aberration)
[Shot 37]
CUT TO WIDE SHOT:
Auden is on the left side of the screen with the 2 friends behind his shoulder.
Auden
(continued dazed)
A-and the pilot?
Jake
(fidgety)
Well… we found part of him?
Auden
(worried anger)
He’s dead!? W-Where is the plane?
[Shot 37b]
Jake and Kevin look at each other for a second.
Jake
(serious)
Well, to be honest, we’ve been looking for an hour now-
Auden
(anger)
I’VE BEEN OUT FOR AN HOUR?
Jake
(continued serious)
Auden, the plane is gone…
Auden
(shock)
The plane is-
Kevin
(serious)
Gone, G O N E, I’ve been looking for about 3 hours for you guys, found Jake an hour ago, and just now found you, but no plane whatsoever. It’s just… vanished.
SCENE THREE
[Shot 38]
The camera is slowly turning with a timelapse, the group is slowly putting together a shelter. The timelapse slows down to the end of the shelter being built.
Jake
(scared)
This place doesn’t feel right, am I the only one finding that out?
CUT TO AUDEN WALKING SHOT:
Auden walks towards Jake, and puts his hand on his shoulder.
Auden
(to Jake)
None of this is right, we are survivors, there’s gonna be a little guilt with this whole situation.
Jake
(calming)
I mean, I guess you’re right, but it still feels… off.
Kevin (O.S.)
Hey! Can someone grab some firewood? We need to prepare.
Jake
(looking around)
I-I got it, I need to take a walk anyway. I’ll be right back.
[Shot 39b]
Jake starts walking away and Auden goes back to working on the shelter, camera following Auden, suddenly a humming is heard by everyone.
[Shot 40]
CUT BETWEEN DOLLY SHOTS OF AUDEN AND KEVIN:
Kevin is tying up a bundle of sticks when he looks up. A loud hum is heard. The camera pulls slowly into both Kevin, then Auden.
Jake (O.S.)
(concerned)
What is that sound? Does anyone hear that? Where did you guys go?
[Shot 41]
Auden looks up and the camera pans towards the direction Jake walked in.
Auden
(yelling)
Jake? JAKE? Hey, dude not funny, where are you?
Kevin (O.S.)
JAKE! DON’T PLAY THIS GAME WITH ME MAN!
[Shot 41b]
Auden walks at first, looking around, camera following the directions he looks. Picking up the pace running screaming Jake’s name.
[Shot 42]
Auden stops, the camera circles around him as he looks around in a circle, Kevin can be seen approaching in the background, also running. Both characters are distressed.
Kevin
(panicked, tinged with sadness)
Jake can’t be gone! We just saw him!
Auden
(yelling, scared, trailing off)
JAKE!
[Shot 43 and 44]
Auden drops down, looking around, he notices foot tracks.
Auden
(hopeful, pointing)
Kev, look, footprints, he’s not gone, we can find him!
[Shot 45]
Kevin runs ahead, following the obvious foot tracks, but he stops abruptly.
Kevin
(confused, sad tone)
He just… vanished. They stop here…
[Shot 46]
Auden
(panicking more)
Kevin, SNAP OUT OF IT! Things and people don’t just disappear! He’s not gone!
Kevin
(aggressive sadness)
What about the plane huh? We can’t find that and now Jake can’t be found either… They TOOK him from us Auden!
Auden
(confused, annoyed)
Who took who Kev? It sounds like you’re going insane, you know that?
Kevin
(hopeless)
This whole situation is insane, something took him Auden. Doesn’t matter what took him, he’s just gone.
[Shot 47]
Kevin looks away erratically and starts walking back to camp, the camera turns the face Auden head on, he seems to be thinking, but closes his eyes and wipes them.
Auden
(yelling)
Kevin! Wait up!
[Shot 47b]
Auden jogs on screen.
CUT TO WIDE SHOT:
The camera follows from afar, slightly off center with Kevin to the right. Auden approaches from the left.
Auden
(serious)
Kev, there is still hope…
Kevin is silent, just continues walking. It’s just them walking for a beat, transitioning between them both walking.
SCENE 4
[Shot 48]
Kevin and Auden continue walking, seemingly passing the same landmarks.
AUDEN
(exhausted)
Kev… this is the third time we’ve passed that dead tree. Something’s not right.
KEVIN
(hollowly)
Doesn’t matter. We’re walking in circles. We’re not meant to leave.
AUDEN
(confused, alert)
Kev? Wait — are those-
Auden looks back to where Kevin was walking and sees he’s gone. Auden continues walking, looking around. The humming begins again.
Kevin
(distressed, far)
It’s all my fault… They’re gone because of me…
Auden
(yelling)
Kevin?
The camera follows Auden walking from behind, he starts running in a random direction. He hears people, his friends speaking around him, saying gibberish and random responses. The camera looks around to see people around him but they disappear around him, Auden runs in weird patterns, trying to catch these shadows of people. The camera catches up to him, showing a split view of his face and last moment shocked expression. Auden trips and the camera can hear him fall deep into something. The camera abruptly stops, facing the forest view, tilted up towards the sky.
There are birds chirping and a waterfall sounding throughout the forest, Detective Polinzy walks on screen from the left, looking down at where Auden fell off screen. He squints a bit.
Detective Polinzy
(shocked, hopeless)
Oh my- (picks up walkie talkie and fidgets with it) 10-54, I found one of them. (sigh) Secure the area, all of it. 10-23
The Detective walks off screen and the camera zooms out.
Credits roll showing map views, and red marks. It all ends with a black screen and the Title.
Post credit scene? Fenced in forest with government protection?
