It was Friday night and the gym was packed for the big game. Our school, Westfield High, was playing against our rivals, Lincoln Prep. Everyone was talking about how tough Lincoln’s team was, but Chris didn’t look nervous at all. From the moment the game started, he was on fire. He hit three three-pointers in the first quarter alone and drove past defenders like they weren’t even there. The whole crowd started chanting his name by the second quarter, and it felt like nothing could stop him.
By halftime, Chris already had 28 points and we were only up by five. Coach told us to keep feeding him the ball because Lincoln still had some really good shooters. In the third quarter, Chris did a crazy step-back three that made the crowd go wild. He even got fouled on one of his dunks and made the free throw after, which gave him his 40th point. It felt like he was in the zone or something. Lincoln tried double-teaming him, but he just passed it out and got it back for even more buckets.
In the fourth quarter, everyone was on their feet. Chris hit two more threes and a couple of layups, and suddenly he had 50 points. The scoreboard showed 84-77 when the final buzzer went off, and we all ran onto the court and lifted Chris up. He had the biggest smile on his face, and even the other team came over to shake his hand.
That game was something we’ll never forget, and now everyone at school is calling him “Legend Chris.” I don’t think we’ll see another performance like that again.
