On Monday, April 28, the Corry Beavers Baseball team traveled to CASH to face the Eagles. The Beavers starting line-up consisted of: Karson Chamberlin starting behind home plate, Lewis Hellyer starting on the mound for the Beavers, Jeremiah Johnson on third base, Kamdyn Moon playing short-stop, Wyatt Swan playing second base, Jacob Gantz on first base. The starting outfield was Carson Braswell in left field, Tucker Jackson in center field and Aiden Trask in right field.
The top of the first inning went quickly as the Eagles defense was strong, only allowing Moon to get on base. The Beavers were off to a rocky start, allowing CASH to score one run. The Eagles led 1-0 as they entered the second inning of the ball game. Zack Coulter, put into DH for Hellyer started off the second inning for the Beavers, hit the first base hit of the game. Coulter’s hit dropped into the left-center field for a single. Carson Braswell hit the first pitch, sending it over left-center field for his very first Varsity home run, which puts the Beavers in the lead 2-1.
The Beavers continued to be heavy on the bats in the second inning, but the Eagles continued to battle, getting a double play on Trask and Gantz, which secured the first two outs. Johnson got walked and stole second base, Chamberlin hit a grounder up the middle bringing Johnson into score, but the inning ended as CASH got Chamberlin out as he attempted to make his hit into a double. The top of the second inning ended with a 3-1 score. The bottom of the second inning went quickly as the Beavers defense did not allow CASH to score any runs.
The top of the third inning was uneventful for the Beavers as they did not score any runs and only Swan got on base. During the bottom of the third inning CASH scored one run bringing the score to 3-2. An Eagles error allowed Carson Braswell to score at the top of the fourth inning, followed by a Karson Chamberlin two run home run which brought Trask in from third. A pitching change was made by Conneaut as the Beavers had a four point lead (6-2). An infield pop-fly ended the top of the fourth. The Beavers managed to get out of an intense inning letting up only one run, keeping the three point lead as they entered the fifth inning. The fifth inning went by quickly as there were no runs scored by either team.
The sixth inning was another scoring inning for the beavers, as Braswell tagged up to score on a pop-fly out to left field. The Eagles ended the top of the inning by throwing Gantz out as he attempted to steal second. The score was 7-3 as the ballgame headed into the bottom of the sixth inning. Going into the bottom of the sixth inning the Beavers made a pitching change. Pulling Roo Hellyer after five innings and putting Karson Chamberlin in to close the game, as they put Kurlowech in behind the plate to catch. The sixth inning ended quickly as the Beavers secured three consecutive outs.
During the seventh inning, Conneaut made a pitching change after a Chamberlin walk, followed by a base hit from Moon. A bunt from Swan which turned into a infield single as there was no Eagle coverage at first and a Jackson walked, which gave Corry a six point lead (9-3). After the pitching change was made the Eagles ended the top of the seventh inning quickly as Stewart struck out Braswell, Trask and Gantz. The bottom of the seventh inning started with a base hit, but the Beavers did not let the Eagles score any runs.
The Co-Offensive Players of the Game were named Carson Braswell and Karson Chamberlin for both of their home runs.
The Defensive Play of the Game was a play by Wyatt Swan in the seventh inning.
The Player of the Game was named Carson Braswell as he hit his first ever Varsity home-run and scored three runs for the Beavers.
