The sudden rain was falling upon the small town, covering it with a gray mist. At the edge of town, in the secluded Oak wood Manor, a loud scream pierced the silence of the night. When the police finally showed up, they had found a lifeless body of Spencer Hills, a wealthy but secretive businessman, sprawled across the floor of his study. The door was stuck like glue from the inside, and there were no signs of forced entry. All that remained was a cryptic note on the desk that read, ¨The truth lies beneath the surface.¨
One of the detectives, Taylor Johnson, was called to investigate for her unique skills. She immediately noticed a set of footprints in the wet carpet, leading from the window to the body. Spencer´s wife, Rebecca, seemed strangely composed, through her eyes betrayed a flicker of something deeper, something guarded. The housekeeper on the other hand, Mrs. Shear was the first to claim she’d seen a shadowy figure going through the fog earlier that evening. Detective Taylor was very skeptical wondering why everyone had a reason to be nervous in a house full of secrets.
As the investigation unfolded, Detective Taylor discovered that Spencer had been entangled in a bitter business rivalry and had recently changed his will. Rebecca, though grieving, had much more to gain if her husband was dead, but Taylor´s instincts told her to go even farther in the investigation. In the final moments of the case, it was revealed that the butler, Harry, had been blackmailing Spencer for years over a past crime. The final truth came as a shock, Spencer knew he was the target, and the note was his final warning to the person who’d betrayed him. In the fog of deception, only Taylor knew had truly committed the perfect eventful crime.
