On Wednesday, March 12, the Corry Beavers hosted the Eisenhower Knights for the season opening scrimmage at the Columbus Ballpark. The Varsity game began at 4 p.m., starting with Senior Lewis Hellyer on the mound, Senior Zack Coulter on third, Senior Karson Chamberlin on short, Junior Kamdyn Moon on second, Senior Jacob Gantz on first, Senior Wesley Kurelowech catching. The outfield started with Senior Aiden Trask in right field, Junior Wyatt Swan in center, and Freshman Jeremiah Johnson in left field.
During the scrimmage Coach Cirigliano was very experimental with defense. Halfway through the second inning Kamdyn Moon came in to pitch, as Lewis Hellyer went out to left field and Jeremiah Johnson was moved in to play second. The Beavers were well in the lead going into the fourth inning, so some of the JV players got put in and gave the Varsity boys a break. The only upperclassman that stayed on the field was Jacob Gantz, as he moved to the mound.
The Beavers stayed in the lead, only letting the Knights score a few runs as they secured their first (unofficial) win of the season. The boys’ first official game is on Wednesday, March 19 at Erie High School. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. After that they will begin having games almost every Monday and Wednesday, with the occasional Thursday and Sunday.
You can keep an eye out for when and where the games will be on the Weekly Sports Line-UpĀ article posted every Monday.
