Mia and I had put in a lot of work the last few days to get the word out about our stand. I woke up on Tuesday morning and got ready as quickly as I could. I was really excited because it was the last day of school and we would be officially opening our stand as soon as we got home. At breakfast I opened my phone and saw a message from Jack :
“Good luck with the stand! I wish I could be there. I’m so proud of you guys for making this decision.”
I smiled. I missed my brother and I couldn’t wait to tell him all about how the stand goes.
After breakfast Mia and I started on our walk to school. She told me that all of her friends and the people in her class were excited to come get snow cones and her teacher told her that she thought it was really kind and considerate of us to donate our profits.
As soon as we got into the school we could hear all the excitement about summer and people chatting about their summer plans. As I got to my homeroom class and started walking towards my seat, Greg walked up to me. He looked nervous. I smiled at him.
“I’m sorry Gabby,” he said in a sad tone.
“For what?” We both knew he was always pretty rude to everyone but I never expected him to apologize for it.
“I know I’ve never been the nicest to everyone and I feel bad, especially after what you guys are doing for my family. I just wanted to thank you for that. You don’t know how hard of a time we’re going through and you have no idea how much this helps,” he explained.
“It’s okay, Greg. I forgive you. I know you’re going through a lot right now and you’re overwhelmed. We’re just glad we can help. If you ever need someone to talk to or a friend, I’m always here.”
Greg was very sincere and I could tell he meant what he said. I knew the best thing I could do was forgive him and let him know that I was there for him, and I could tell he was very thankful for that. His parents were gone a lot with the baby in the hospital, so Greg and Phil were home alone most days. I invited him to join our stand and work together to raise money and he was really excited. I knew this was going to be one of our best summers yet.
Come back for the fourth and final part to find out the outcome of the stand at the end of the summer!
