Corry’s girls and boys basketball teams qualified for the playoffs. Both teams had a solid season with the girls’ overall record being 4-11; the boys were 12-10.
The girls had their first game down at Farrell High School last Wednesday against the Grove City Eagles. That game ended in a win for the Beavers, and they moved on to the second round of playoffs. The boys had their first round on Thursday against Iroquois up at the Hagerty Center in Erie.
On Thursday, the boys went head to head against the Braves for the first round of playoffs. The game started at 6 p.m., the Beavers being the first game of the night up at Hagerty. Kicking off the game, Iroquois won the tip-off, and Corry’s Nick Scouten made a three-pointer, putting the first points on the board and making the score 3-0. The Braves quickly struck back with three-pointers of their own, evening the score 3-3 within the first quarter.
The first half of the game was a back-and-forth game with both teams staying within three points of each other. Going into halftime, the Braves had a large lead on the Beavers with the score being 24-19. In the second half, Iroquois kept a comfortable lead against the Beavers. The boys fought the whole time but fell short with the ending score being 54-44. Iroquois will move on to the next round, and Corry’s season is done.
On Saturday the girls went head to head against the Fairview Tigers in competition to move onto round three of the playoffs. The game was at 2 p.m. up at the Hagerty Center in Erie. Starting off the game, the Beavers won the tip-off, but Fairview ended up putting the first points on the board with a three-pointer. Corry struck back with a layup from Sadye Dyne, making the score 3-2. Throughout the first half, the Tigers kept a solid lead against the Beavers and were up 18-9. Fairview won the game 48-20 and is moving on to the third round.
