Above are some of the works of Corry’s very first AP Studio Art Drawing student, Makenzie Patterson.
AP Art has never been offered in Corry until this year. In the course, Patterson is required to pick a concentration theme on which to base all of her work. She needs to make 20 pieces of art to submit to the college board. Five pieces have to be from selected works, and 15 from her concentration theme.
Patterson’s most recent piece of art is the man eating the heart. This was her first time experimenting with painting in the course. Patterson chose her concentration to be on people’s insecurities and emphasizes how she thinks they are beautiful.
The process she goes through to make the art is: come up with an idea, sketch, plan, research, and start the piece. All this is a lot of hard work, taking five or six periods out of her day.
Patterson expressed if you have a lot of drive and motivation to get it done, it’s all worth it. She loves the sense of accomplishment finishing a piece brings her, and she loved to get to show them off once they’re done.
In the future, Makenzie would like to go to go to PennWest for Ceramics and Art Education. Ever since she was little, she has always loved drawing and art class. For a career she would like to become an art teacher.
