The 1990-1991 season was a memorable one for the Portland Trail Blazers. Coming off a strong 1989-1990 season where they reached the NBA Finals, the team brought back everyone and decided to run it back. With head coach Rick Adelman, the Blazers had a solid core in Clyde Drexler, Terry Porter, Jerome Kersey, Buck Williams and Cliff Robinson. Their teamwork, fast pace, and solid defense made them one of the most exciting teams to watch that year.
The Blazers finished the regular season with a 63-19 record, the best in the NBA along with the best in franchise history to this day. A lot of this success came from Drexler, who was playing at an incredibly high level, averaging 27.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game. The team’s chemistry was excellent, and they played both offense and defense well. They were especially tough to beat at home, where their fans helped create an electric atmosphere, making them one of the top teams in the league. They even made their own album with songs ‘Rip City Rhapsody’ and ‘Bust a Bucket
Unfortunately, despite their strong regular season, the Blazers fell short in the playoffs. They made it to the Western Conference Finals, where they faced the Los Angeles Lakers, led by Magic Johnson. The Blazers took a 2-0 series lead, but the Lakers came back to win the next four games and took the series 4-2. While the loss was tough for Portland, the 1990-1991 season is still remembered as one of the best in team history. However they have not been able to get back to a record of this caliber.
