Corry boys basketball faced off against the Conneaut Eagles on Wednesday in both JV and varsity games.
JV played first at 5 p.m. The game was going neck and neck in the first half, but CASH had the edge. A huge factor in the first half was Deion Canady being limited to playtime because he was in foul trouble.
In the second half the Beavers started to gain momentum by applying a lot of pressure with their 1-3-1 press. The Eagles could not withstand the pressure causing them to commit costly turnovers. The Beavers ended up pulling away with a 47-39 victory. Nick Scouten was the leading scorer and Lucas Baker led in rebounds.
The varsity game started at 7:30. The Beavers jumped out to an early lead of 11-7 in the first quarter. The lead then grew to 17 by halftime.
Kamdyn Moon and Keaton Frisina started to get hot at the beginning of the third. But that fire was quickly extinguished when CASH forced a couple turnovers and made a few shots cutting the lead to 12 by the start of the 4th. Before you knew it, the lead was cut to two with the score being 54-52 in the final minute.
Corry was bringing up the ball when all of the sudden Cash forced a turnover and now had a fast break. Looking like they were going to tie the game with a wide open layup, Landon Deane came out of nowhere and blocked the shot, but CASH grabbed the rebound and got fouled on a three.
CASH made one out of there three foul shots to make it 54-53. Then they fouled Kamdyn Moon so they could get the ball back. Moon knocked down one of two free throws.
It was 55-53, Corry. CASH drove down the court and kicked it out to the corner to hit the game winning three with two seconds left.
CASH was trailing by 23 at one point but ended up getting the W over the Beavers, 56-55.
