Within the past few weeks, a series of drone sightings have been occurring throughout the country, most commonly in the state of New Jersey. Social media has been blowing up with hundreds and maybe even thousands of these mysterious drones shown flying around in the night sky.
The government claims that they do not know what the drones are or where they came from, but also say that they are not a threat. This has left many scratching their heads, wondering how unidentified groups of drones have unknown origins and are also labeled as “not a threat.” Some speculate that the government does in fact know about these drones, and are keeping it a secret from the public.
Theories are on the rise all over social media: ideas such as “other countries spying on us,” to “government testing new technology,” to even “alien invasion” type stuff. To support some of the likely theories (and even the unlikely ones), many of these drone sightings have been happening around military bases. Videos on the internet show the drones traveling in groups and seeming to monitor the ground below. Another video shows a drone shooting some kind of light or beam, but the video isn’t confirmed to be real. Clearly, some of these videos could have been altered and/or edited from their original form.
Recently on a popular podcast called the “Joe Rogan Experience,” a guest was interviewed named Ryan Graves who is an ex-Navy pilot. He pointed out that suspicious drone sightings were common around this time of year (specifically around two weeks before Christmas), and that similar instances have had people concerned within the last three years but never to this caliber. Drone technology is advancing as the years go on which gives many reasons to believe that it is just government testing. If that is the case, then why wouldn’t the government come out and notify people of the testing rather than causing public confusion?
An extremely shocking case had someone saying that they saw a drone go down, and just minutes later the sky above was filled with multiple drones shining lights onto the ground below. Someone else captured a video of a helicopter casually flying past a drone while shining a light of its own onto the ground as if looking for something with the drones. Nobody knows quite what to make of anything. While there isn’t necessarily a panic going on regarding the situation, some are developing distrust regarding the government’s statements about the drones. Most importantly, when and if the drone sightings fizzle out, will the public get an honest explanation of the situation?
Is it government testing new technology? Are they enemy spy drones? Is it the government testing the waters to see how the public will react to UFOs in the sky? You can hear the theories online everywhere, but in the meantime only one thing remains certain, and that is that either nobody has an answer, or those that do have an answer refuse to communicate with everyone else.
