Have you ever spent a summer doing something that you love with a bunch of friends? Well, in 1993 David Mickey Evans directed one of the best childhood movies of all time. “The Sandlot” features Mike Vitar, Patrick Renna, Chauncey Leopardi, along with many others.
The film tells the story of a group of teenage boys doing what they love all summer: playing baseball. After a new kid moves into town and wants to fit in, he takes his dad’s baseball to play with, not realizing it was signed by Babe Ruth, the greatest baseball player of all time. The kids lose the baseball in a neighboring yard and must retrieve it. However, there is a huge problem: “The Beast,” the neighbor’s dog, is a “killer” and has been rumored to have killed many people. Will they return the baseball before his dad finds out?
The movie itself is an all-time classic. “The Sandlot” is seen as an icon of many childhoods. The best part about the movie is the emotion it creates within the viewer. It brings the reader back to their childhood and the fun they had doing what they love. It shows the greatest values in life: happiness and enjoying life. The movie is full of action and almost never features a dull moment.
One of the only downsides to the movie is the time it came out. The movie premiered just over 30 years ago. Because of that the production quality may not be as great as most movies nowadays. However, the point of watching this classic is not to have a clear picture, but instead reminisce about childhood memories.
I will admit certain types of movies are not for everybody. However, I feel that no matter what type of movies you prefer to watch, “The Sandlot” is a great movie that everyone has to see at least once in their life.
The movie is PG, and is safe for any audience. I would recommend this movie to anyone, as it is an all-time best childhood movie.
