On Friday, November 1, the Corry Beavers football team headed to War Memorial Field, in Warren, PA, to play in the first round of the District Playoffs.
The Beavers played against the Fort LeBoeuf Bison who they went against earlier in the season, which resulted in a loss. The Beavers came out with high energy and the urge to beat the Bison.
Kick off started at 7 p.m. with Fort LeBoeuf receiving the opening kick. The first quarter was a battle back and forth between the two teams fighting for a touchdown. Corry struck first in the second quarter when Senior Nolan Carey delivered a strike to Junior Blake Cook for an 11-yard touchdown.
Senior kicker Zach Turben missed the kick to get the extra point, leaving the score to be 6-0. The Bison came back late in the third quarter, where the Bison scored a touchdown, evening the score 6-6 where it remained after Fort LeBoeuf faked a PAT to go for two, but there was a flag due to a personal foul.
Late in the fourth quarter the Beavers kicker Turben made the kick of his life. The Beavers lined it up, but the Bison called a time out trying to ice the kicker. Beavers Nation stood cheering on Turben as he kicked the ball from 37 yards away from the field goal. The kick had just pinged the front of the crossbar and rolled over. Cheers and screams of joy filled War Memorial Field as the Beavers beat the Bison 9-6. With only nine second lefts, the Beavers held the Bison and punched their ticket into the semi-finals to face The Hickory Hornets.
Beavers will go head to head against the Hornets on Friday, with the winner advancing to the finals.
